NotebookLM in daily life: practical workflows for your everyday tasks

NotbookLM

NotebookLM is Google’s AI notebook that learns only from the sources you give it.

Recent releases added Deep Research (fast vs. deep modes and a research plan) and tighter links to Workspace sources like Gmail, Drive, and Google Chat, plus support for Sheets, PDFs via URL, and Word files.

It can also generate reports in different formats (blog posts, study guides, flashcards, quizzes) in many languages, and in Gemini you can add NotebookLM notebooks as sources to ground answers.

Here are practical ways to fold NotebookLM into your day-to-day work.

Morning triage (Gmail/Drive/Chat). Create a notebook for the day/week and pull in key emails and docs. Ask for a prioritized action list with deadlines and references.

Meeting notes to decisions. Drop the agenda + attachments into NotebookLM, ask for the 5 decisions made and the owner of each action.

Deep Research for big questions. Use fast mode for quick facts, deep mode for a structured research plan and high-quality sources you can cite.

Daily log + finances. Keep a notebook linked to your calendar/logs; ask NotebookLM to summarize what happened today and where your time/money went.

Turn reading into answers. Add PDFs via URL (or upload files) and chat with them: “What’s the core argument? What should I remember?”.

Automatic study/reports. Generate a report in the format you need (study guide/flashcards/quiz/blog post) to reuse in newsletters, LMSs, or internal docs.

Community workflows worth copying:

  • One builder used NotebookLM to turn scattered notes into a weekend product update plan.
  • Another setup uses NotebookLM + calendar/events for a daily log and budget tracking.
